YOU MAY BE SURROUNDED BY GREATNESS BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE "YOU" GREAT.
TO BE THE DIFFERENCE THAT GIVES THE WORLD A FACE YOU REQUIRE TO HAVE MORAL COURAGE TO RESIST THE SENTIMENT OF PARTIALITY TO ONES LOVED ONE.
Firstly thank you for your comments. I think you misunderstood the quote. The quote itself is not stating that surrounding yourself with people who are great will make you great as a person. The quote is a play on words. It specifically states that by surrounding yourself with people who are great creates an environment of greatness around you. It makes no specific claim that in surrounding yourself around people that are great will make YOU great. For example you may be an average soccer player but get drafted to play on a team with some great soccer stars. Playing with them will not make you great but being around them makes your environment great. Perhaps that environment could produce a better soccer player out of you, but that is not what the quote is stating specifically.
As far as your second comment goes I would have to agree somewhat, however to further elaborate on your statment I would say that having moral courage to resist the sentiment of partiality to ones loved one should be within the parameters of what is right in so far as your actions are producing a virtuos outcome. Otherwise you are simply hurting your loved ones.
Thank you again for your comments they were very interesting.
